Stepping Inside Green Gables

Exploring Prince Edward Island: #Write31Days

Anne Shirley arrived at Green Gables because of a mistake. Matthew Cuthbert and his sister Marilla planned to adopt a boy to help on their farm. But when Matthew arrived at the train station, he was met by a red-headed girl who found “scope for her imagination” on the North Shore of PEI.

I’m so excited to share with you a few of the photos I took while touring the home that was scope for Lucy Maud Montgomery’s imagination when she wrote Anne of Green Gables.

First, an establishing shot featuring my sister. (Yep, I surprised her with this photo. Hey, that’s what sisters do.)

We’re about to walk up the ramp and go inside.

This is the first room we see, a combination dining and sitting area.

If you’ve read the books, you may remember that Matthew tells Anne he hasn’t been upstairs in years. So this room is furnished as Matthew’s downstairs bedroom. I love the hat and the cane propped on the bedpost.

I love the crockery displayed in the kitchen. The dishes in the second photo are displayed in a nearby narrow room.

These lovely geraniums grace the kitchen window.

Come back on Monday for the upstairs tour!

Your Turn

I know, I know. Coveting is a no-no. But I’d love to have that hutch and all those dishes.

That’s my confession. Which of these antiques do you want most?
