Here’s my interview with Debbie:

What sparked your idea for the book?

For the characters, some years ago, I had seen little people being exploited on daytime talk shows. I vowed to write a book showing them as regular people living normal lives, but just doing things a little differently.

As for the story, several years before, there was a 20/20 segment about fetal harvesting. I didn’t see that, but they showed a clip of it on Good Morning America. I scribbled some quick notes on a piece of paper and stuck it in my “story ideas” folder. When it came time to write about the dwarfs, I found that piece of paper, and thought the two fit together perfectly.

What surprised you most as you wrote the book?

What surprised me most was how much the two characters still loved each other after a 2 ½ year separation, and how the fire never went out after all that time.

What is something unexpected one of your characters did?

While Amber and her mother are trying to lose the stalking villain, they duck into a lingerie store. While there, Amber’s mom purchases some romantic garments, and Amber hopes she would not only still have Evan as her husband at her mom’s age, but that they would still have a desire for one another then, too.

Hush Little Baby

Investigative journalist Amber Blake is a little person bent on payback for the death of her average-sized twin sister. Enlisted by her former partner and estranged husband Evan, she poses as a counselor in an abortion clinic to expose the doctor responsible for fetal harvesting. As a Christian, she struggles with concealing her beliefs to maintain her cover while the doctor’s romantic overtures tumble her stomach. Amber agrees to date him for the sake of the story . . . but nothing prepares her for what’s behind a Picture of Me (6-17-14)mysterious door in his office.

Deborah M. Piccurelli is an advocate for sanctity of life and tackles such issues in her novels, weaving them into compelling stories. She lives in New Jersey with her husband and their two sons.
