While I was considering what book to read for the “Book with a Book on the Cover,” I saw a Facebook post from Elizabeth Penney that inspired my choice.
Elizabeth’s post announced that Chapter and Curse, the first in the Cambridge Bookshop Series, was nominated for an award by the Mystery Writers of America!! Specifically, the cozy mystery was nominated for the Simon and Schuster Mary Higgins Clark Award.,
Though I’ve never had the opportunity to meet Elizabeth in person, we have written books in the same series for Annie’s Fiction. So, yes, I’m basking in a tiny bit of reflected glory here! LOL!
Seriously, congrats to Elizabeth on the nomination. Fingers crossed that she wins this acclaimed award!
I already have the novel downloaded to my Kindle and will be reading it soon.
Are you reading a book with a book on the cover this month? What book will you choose that has an intriguing setting?
Didn’t know I was meeting the challenge in February. 😊 I just finished “The Last Book Shop in London.” Definitely has books on the cover.
Hey, Lynn!!! That’s so great!!! Good to hear from you 🙂
Hi, Johnnie! I’ve been reading a biography of a fascinating person in his fascinating setting, as research for a novel:
Fire in the City, Savonarola and the Struggle for the Soul of Renaissance Florence, by Lauro Martines.
Hi, Maria. With a title like that, I had to check out the book. I know so little about Italian history but I watched a show on the Medicis that was fascinating and sparked my interest. This book sounds intriguing. I’d love to hear more about your novel. Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for your kind reply, Johnnie! It is a fascinating book but takes all my concentration. I would love an opportunity to have a conversation about my book.
Where is the best place to start reading your novels – your favorites…?
Hi, Maria. Are you involved in any writing groups or have you been to a conference? Those are my top two pieces of advice for writers. A critique partner is invaluable! I met my first critique partners at a conference way back in 2007. We don’t critique any more but they are still very dear and close friends.
My favorite of my books is Where Treasure Hides, my debut novel! It has its imperfections–when I read it again about a year ago to prep for a book club chat, I couldn’t stop editing-in-my-head. But I love the characters, the storyline, and all the shades of cowardice and courage revealed by the events of WWII. Check the menu above for my Historical Fiction, Contemporary Fiction, Misty Willow Series, and the books I write for Annie’s Fiction.
Hope to hear from you again!
Johnnie, I’ve added Where Treasure Hides to my Amazon wish list and Goodreads ‘want to read’ list.
Yes, I’ve been to writers conferences, local ones and out of state, and participated in writers groups. Currently I’m a member of Serious Writer and Historical Novel Society. I’m very limited in what I can do, but not only do I have Serious Writer (I hope to take your course) but there are lots of free helps at Reedsy, and am contracted for a Manuscript Critique with Enchanted Ink.
I’m a former 1973-74 MFA student also but did not finish the program. In 2011, I published a novel with the infamous Tate Publishing in Mustang, OK.
I contacted Bethany to ask how I could better involve myself with SW and she was very helpful.
Thanks, Johnnie!
Hey! Joining those groups is a great idea, and I’m glad you’re in Serious Writer. I need to check out the Historical Novel Society. If you join the SW Club, be sure to join us for the SW Fiction monthly class!
Thanks, Johnnie! God bless you!
And you! I’m sure our paths will criss-cross again!
Yes!
