Romance isn’t just for the young! It’s also for the not-so-young and for those who have loved and lost. Though I haven’t read Hollow Hearts, I’m intrigued that the heroine is a middle-aged widow instead of a never-been-kissed young gal.
The novel, written by Donna Schlacter, is the second book in her Hearts of the Pony Express Series. Read the cover copy (below)–I’m confident you’ll be intrigued, too!
Donna is giving away a print edition and autographed bookplate for a US winner or an ebook for an international winner.
The Story
Middle-aged widow Edith Cooper walks away from the cemetery along the Green River near Simpson’s Hollow, Utah Territory. Away from the husband buried there this morning. Away from their plans and dreams for their future. Along the way, two men offer their hand in marriage. For her protection, one says. For his children’s sake, says the second. Were any of these reasons enough to marry? She must choose one. But which?
Albert Whitt, stationmaster of the Pony Express Station, loves his independent life. Twice stood up by women, he takes the only course that ensures no more rejection: stay clear of them. But when he learns that the stoic Widow Cooper is considering two proposals from men not worthy of lacing her boots, he must do something. But what?
Can Edith and Albert find a new beginning in the midst of tragedy, or will they choose the most convenient path—alone?

Hi, Johnnie! Thank you!
Very interesting question. I am having trouble thinking of one. The only thing that comes to mind is an antique quilt.
I would have to pick a yield sign. I am disabled as well as have low immunity. I have a lot of time that I have to stop and rest before continuing any task at hand.
sun – happy
Inspite of the limitations imposed upon women in times past, it seems that they may have experienced more satisfaction than modern women. Values, family and meaningful relationships vs ?? freedom, career options, and lack of family cohesiveness.
I enjoy romances about “older” heroines. I’d choose a blue rose as my symbol because it reminds me of cherished times.
Sounds good! Thanks for the chance to win! A book or a computer, as I’m doing one or the other, or both!
Thank you for the opportunity it own one of your books❤️
I would choose the pound sigh because I need to loose weight to help my back.
I would choose a stop 🛑 sign as I need to slow down and quit being everything to everybody. Thank you for sharing. Blessings
thanks for sharing this give a way. I love her books and I love western and the pony express. hmmm great question. I would have to say a sewing machine with a cross on it. why? because Jesus is in my heart and soul and He gave me the gift of sewing/quilting with joy.
I would choose a hummingbird, because they are such fascinating creatures, lol!
I have no idea what symbol I would choose. Maybe a computer because if they hadn’t come along I doubt I would have written one book, let alone fifteen…
I would choose the star sign. I pray every day that the Lore would shine His light through me so that others would see Him in me.
Thanks for the chance to win.
I would add that your computer be golden, because your writings are special!
I would select a daffodil to be my symbol, as they are dependable and provide encouragement. They also show God’s faithfulness.
A peach because I bruise easily and am very sensitive. Both emotionally and medically speaking.
