Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres and World War II fiction is my absolutely favorite era. No surprise then that I’m giving away another World War II novel.
This one, Land That I Love, is by popular WWII author Gail Kittleson, takes place primarily in the German Hill Country of Texas and is based on true events. I fell in love with the cover and the story blurb sounds epic. Definitely one to add to my TBR list.
Gail is giving away an ebook edition of her novel, and the winner can live anywhere!
The Story
Set in the German Hill Country of Texas during World War II, Land That I Love, is a sweeping literary novel of love and loss; friendship and animosity; fathers and sons; and coping during times of war and peace. Yet it is more than a love story. It is about the racism and bigotry that still exist in our world. As author Gail Kittleson’s characters struggle with the problems of everyday life, they teach us that we survive hard times by being good neighbors despite our differences and that hatred can be conquered by love, understanding and forgiveness.

I don’t know that I have read much if anything about German internment camps. I know people were very suspicious and mean to German Americans during the war.
I learned a lot about this while researching this story, Ellen. Had no idea of some of the details.
school
I think I heard about it years ago, but I honestly wouldn’t know where. It could have even been on an episode of The Walton’s, since I’m watching them again sometimes.
This sounds amazing. Thank you for this opportunity.
The Waltons have taught me quite a bit about WWII days.
The Waltons have taught me a thing or two about the WWI era, too!
Love clean historical fiction.
History books.
I think I’ve heard of them but that was many, many years ago when I did
Book sounds like a good read and would love to review the print format of the book
I really never had until I researched this story. Amazing what we still have to learn about that time period!Sees like there was more press about them at the time.
I knew about the Germans being held here several years ago. And recently I read Naomi Musch’s book Season of my Enemy.
Yes–I read that one too. so good!
I didn’t know.
I did not know much about the German internment during WW2 until I read Season of My Enemy by Naomi Musch. I would love to learn more.
I live near Tule Lake, one of the Japanese internment camps…didn’t know about the German Americans being interned as well…
Sees like there was more press about them at the time.
I didn’t know about them
I have read book’s about camps but I’m not sure if I read American people were there too
That’s the STINGER! American citizens…I could hardly believe it, but then, those were perilous times and some governmental agencies might have gone a LITTLE overboard?
I actually read about it in a book, but not sure what one.
