My Okie family and I are headed to the Tulsa Zoo today! Though I’ve lived in this city for three years now, this is my first visit. The sun is shining and the temps are supposed to be in the low 70s so it should be a gorgeous day to be outside.
How fun that the hero in this month’s featured novel “spews facts like a docent at a zoo”!
April’s giveaway is for A Random Act of Shyness by Chautona Havig. About the story, one Amazon reviewer said:
Aside from the hilariousness of it, I loved it because the characters felt like people I would want to be friends with. I want to eat chocolate covered strawberries at the Confectionary with Jordan, visit the zoo with Ann, and watch Heath’s hilariously pitiful dates in person (that part makes me sound mean, though, doesn’t it? :P).
THE STORY
“That man is going to be single for the rest of his life!”
What began as a coping mechanism as a little boy became highly-effective date repellent as a man. He knows girls don’t care about the life cycle of a dung beetle, but Heath can’t help but spew facts like a docent at the zoo anytime he’s on one of his many first and only dates.
His sister is determined to fix that. So, she signs him up for the new betwixt2hearts.com matchmaking service. Her plan: simple. Just let him practice on a bunch of girls until it becomes second nature. Simple, right?
But Heath can’t get one girl out of his mind. So, with his boss’s help, and a little creativity, he embarks on a sorta-secret admirer scheme to induce her into giving him a second chance.
He’s a good guy… and someday he’ll figure out how to show it.

- The Rafflecopter winner must have a U.S. address.

I would rather go to a museum
Hi, Jodi. What kind of museums are your favorite? I think the last one I went to was a small museum in Oak Ridge, Tennessee which provided the history of that town’s founding by the army during WWII. It was also known at that time as the secret city.
I would visit a zoo, aquarium, and/or museum. I have no interest in those big adventures.
Hi, Roxanne! In our family, a few of us prefer what we call “quiet adventures.” Sounds like you’re a kindred spirit with us!
Oh, this sounds great!! I like going to the zoo, but I’d love to go on a real safari, too! I’d much rather go to the aquarium (I live close to the beach, and I burn soooo easily), and I’m not sure about the third question! I’m not sure about time travel!
Hi, Trudy. I’m with you–an easy burner! We had a great time at the zoo today. I’ll be including a couple photos in my April newsletter. So glad to hear from you!
I love going to the zoo, acquarium and I have always wondered what it would be like to time travel.
Hi, Barbara. Let’s go on a time travel adventure together! What era should we visit? LOL!
OH what a tough question. I’m an animal lover so I’d love to visit the zoo or go on Safari but also love the ocean and would love to go to the aquarium. Also love to go to any museum. My favorite if I would have to choose is go to a zoo or safari.
Would love to read and review book(s) in print format.
Happy Easter
Hope I Win
Hi, Crystal. It would be hard for me to make those choices, too. Every time we watch an Amazing Race episode where the teams get to go on a safari, I want to be there, too! Thanks for stopping by!
Thank you for sharing your time and your talent. God bless you. Happy Easter.
Aw, Debra! You just made my day. Thank you!!!
I’d love to go on a safari someday, or the Australian outback. I live on the Oregon coast so swimming in the ocean would be out (it’s cold!) but I love aquariums. I also love museums, historical ones are mine & my husbands favorite to visit.
Thank you for the giveaway chance to win a copy of “Random Acts of Shyness”!
Hi, Trixi. I’ve waded in the Atlantic but have never caught a glimpse of the Pacific. It’s on my someday list. So glad to hear from you!
Go on safari. Visit an aquarium. I don’t think time travel would be a choice I would be interested in. Interesting options!
Hi, Anne-Marie. I think I’d like to time travel but I’m not sure how far back I’d want to go. Because, you know, plumbing!! LOL!!!
I would Visit a zoo or go on a safari. Love any and all animals. It would be so cool to see them all.
Hi, Tina. I love seeing the animals, too. Visiting a zoo is so fun but I hope to go on a safari someday!
I would visit a zoo as I haven’t been in many years. A safari would be nice but I’m not that adventurous. I loved the aquarium the few times I went and I enjoy playing in the ocean as long as it is close to shore. I love visiting the museum and especially the Holocaust museum in DC even though I cried through most of it. Time travel would be interesting but I would rather be home and read about it. I loved the book and movie of The Time Travelers Wife.
Oh, Lucy! I’ve been to the Holocaust Museum, too. It’s a very emotional experience. I’ll never forget seeing all those names and photos. I haven’t read The Time Traveler’s Wife. Guess I need to add it to the TBR list.
1. Go on a safari
2. Swim in the ocean (I’ve only been to the ocean once when I was a year old.)
3. Visit a museum–there are several museums in Washington D.C. that I would love to visit.
Great choices, Elizabeth! There are way too many museums in the world that I’d love to visit. So then why don’t I even go to the ones in my own city?!?! Well, right now, I think they’re closed but I plan to make those visits when I can.
I like most zoos; been on a couple wildlife safaris in the Midwest. Maybe someday in Africa?
I like museums too; especially history. Although in my teen years I volunteered at a science museum. I’m not into aquariums so much, and the closest I’ve come to an ocean is the Gulf of Mexico. That was enjoyable!
Hi, Misty! You know, I’ve read about safaris in the Midwest but had totally forgotten about them. I’d love to go on an African safari someday–not sure it can ever happen though. Thanks for stopping by!
I would rather visit a museum. I try to visit one each time we go on vacation.
Hi, Julie! There’s so much variety to be found in museums. One of my favorite is the Lightner Museum in St. Augustine, Florida. I used to live near Orlando so got to go there a couple of times. I’ve not yet made it to a museum here in Tulsa but hopefully can soon!
Would you rather: 1) Visit a zoo or go on a safari? Go on a safari in Africa
2) Visit an aquarium or swim in the ocean? Visit an aquarium so I can pet some of the mammals
3) Visit a museum or time travel to the past? Museum would be cool but the past I might be able to remember good times that I don’t remember anymore
Oh, Danielle–your comment about remembering good times just touched my heart. I feel like there are so many details of my happy childhood that I’ve forgotten. It would be nice to revisit those. God bless!
1) Visit a zoo or go on a safari? Zoo!
2) Visit an aquarium or swim in the ocean? Ocean
3) Visit a museum or time travel to the past? Museum
I guess I’m not that adventurous!
Hi, Connie! My daughters and I say we enjoy “quiet adventures”! Nothing wrong with that!!! Though I think choosing the ocean instead of an aquarium shows an adventurous spirit!!
I’d probably prefer a zoo, an aquarium, and a museum. I’m a little old for the other things, and I’ve become a lot less adventurous.
Hi, Winnie! I’m just going to copy what I replied to Connie (just above)–My daughters and I say we enjoy “quiet adventures”! Nothing wrong with that!!! So glad you stopped by!!
I’d rather go on a safari, snorkel in the ocean, and time travel. Or maybe just read about all of those!
Yes, to <> about adventures!!! That’s always a good time!!!! Though I love that you picked the more adventurous choice in each of those options. Always glad to hear from you!!!
I’d choose zoo, aquarium and museum.
Great choices, Megan! Thanks for participating in the giveaway!!
1) I don’t see this happening anytime soon, but I’m tired of zoos, so I would like to get out of my comfort zone and go on a safari. 2) Visit an aquarium! I don’t swim well, and I had an uncle who died while scuba diving on his honeymoon with my aunt, so I will never swim in the ocean. 3) I would love to time travel to the past & experience everything first-hand! But since that’s not going to happen (as much as I love sci-fi and am fascinated particularly with time travel, I believe that God won’t allow humans to travel through time), I will enjoy museums instead. I was a History major, and I love art, so I like a lot of different kinds of museums.
Lila, you have such a gorgeous and amiable smile! I wanted to be a history major, but for various reasons that didn’t work out. I became very interested in art after I learned about the Nazi looting of art during World War II. Now art shows up in a few of my stories. Anyway, love your comment!!
I choose zoo, aquarium and museum.
Terrific choices, Karen!!!! Thanks for stopping by.
1. I think a zoo, but I would be alright going on a safari also 2. Visit an aquarium 3. Definitely visit a museum. While I think it would be pretty neat to go visit the past, I’d be afraid that I wouldn’t be able to make it back and I’d be stuck there.
PS. I think this book would make a great movie!
