I am so excited for this giveaway. M.N. Stroh–known to me as Melissa!–is an extremely talented writer and an avid researcher of late-first-century Ireland history. Her Tale of the Clans series will transport you to that world where you’ll experience the heartache and faith.
This month’s giveaway is for an autographed, paperback edition of Rise of Betrayal, the second book in Melissa’s debut series.
The Story
Ireland, 962 AD
One brash act forced her to flee her clan.
Now, after years in hiding, she risks exposure to the man whose brother is dead because of her.
Nessa’s father arranges her betrothal to the son of their warmongering overlord. Horrified, Nessa realizes that marrying the rogue warrior will thrust her family into the heart of their clan’s longstanding conflict with the Danes of Luimnech.
Nessa’s accepts her seemingly sealed fate until tragedy presses her to make a desperate escape, though her brash act costs her intended’s life. Now his family seeks revenge.
Sanctuary among distant kindred proves short-lived and Nessa’s rescuers entangle her into their schemes. With the balance of power shifting in southern Ireland, her knowledge could pave the way for her former chieftain to claim the provincial throne. Yet, offering that knowledge may expose her identity to her estranged clansmen… and to the man whose brother died because of her.

I would choose a sword and shield to defend myself against a Viking invader because I think it would be better in battle than a bow and arrow.
Hi, Crystal! So glad to see you here. Thanks for stopping by!
sword and shield
I’d probably say that, too, except I’m not sure I’m strong enough to hold a sword and a shield! LOL!!
I would use the sword and a shield, I would feel safer that way, especially with the shield. Thanks for the chance, the book sounds awesome!
I must have missed the question. However, I think if you are defending yourself against and invader you could do so from a distance with a bow and arrow.
Hi, Anne-Marie. I like that reasoning–much safer to fight from a distance!!!
Sword and shield
Hi, Kathryn! I like your answer, but as I said above, I don’t know if I could wield a sword. Though I used to carry fifty-pound bags of feed. LOL!
If I were as skilled with a bow and arrow as Nessa, I would totally choose that!
Sword and shield would be best.
I think I’d choose a bow and arrow so I wouldn’t have to get too close to the enemies. Thank you for the chance to win!
I think I’d use bow and arrows even though I don’t know how to use them! I’d have to learn! Thanks for the chance to win!
I think I would use a sword and shield. They may be to close for a bow and arrow.
Golly–run & hide isn’t an option? I’d pick bow & arrow, though I’d be a lousy shot!!
I would choose the sword and shield.
I’d probably choose the bow and arrow (distance might be safer?) but in reality I’d probably be running to find a cave to hide in!
Bow and arrow.
I would love bow and arrows just because it would be fun. Thank you
Each one has their benefits and drawbacks. While bow and arrows you can shoot from a distance, you run the risk of running out of arrows, and unless you have a great vantage point, you need to be able to shield yourself from the enemy. With a sword and shield, you have something to hide behind to protect your vital organs. But you have to be very good at close combat. If you’re like me and you could not handle either one, I think I’ll just find a good hiding place and pray.
I’m hiding and praying with you, Sharon!
Bow and arrows, strike them down before they get too close.
Sword and shield
I’m not skilled with either one but a shield would be
something to hide behind.
I would choose the bow and arrow then I could shoot from a distance instead of fighting close up.
I used to be a pretty decent shot with a bow and arrow, so I would choose that.
That’s so cool, Linda!
I’m loving all these comments. I was waffling about my choice as I read all your replies. Then I came to Sharon’s comment. She said she’d hide and pray. I’m sticking with Sharon!
I think I would use a sword & shield
