When eighteen-month-old White Buffalo Girl dies in Marcy Whitt’s arms, the young woman risks her father’s carpentry business and her engagement to the town’s most eligible bachelor to find the toddler’s beloved stuffed toy for the grieving mother.
During her quest, Marcy draws strength from Isaiah 40:29: “He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.” Though Marcy doesn’t find the toy among the destroyed village’s debris, she finds another way to bring comfort to White Buffalo Girl’s parents. She also finds the courage to break her engagement and give her love to a man worthy of her heart.
